Africa: Pretty Lady

An exclusive on Africa by Chiemela Victor Amaechi, as Africa is home to 1.1 billion people in 54 nations, speaking 2,000 languages. So why does it get generalized as all doom and gloom when 1 in 3 Africans are middle class?

I will personally express my desire to see Africa prosper more as the world depends on this prosperous continent. We have alot of resources and economy but the mindset of young generations need to be refined and more capacity building schemes should be encouraged by various African leaders and philanthropists.

We need to have a refined mindset, a positive one and picture Africa as a prosperous lady. We should stop antagonizing her, and see her as a corrupt lady because she is pretty, industrious and hardworking and has given birth to many great people in various spheres of life. 

Be a refined African, and project Africa in good light because Africans are good people.

A couple in Jerusalem

A man and his nagging wife were on holiday in Jerusalem, when the wife suddenly died. The funeral company told the man that it would cost $45,000 to ship her home or $500 to bury her in Jerusalem. 

The husband said, “Ship her home!” Shocked, the undertaker asked, “But sir, why don’t you bury her in the Holy Land and save the money?”

Things happen, but you won't believe it that a 'then' President Mwai Kibaki’s Pants went down in public while he was delivering a public address. Former president Mwai Kibaki has been appointed a special envoy by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Emilio Mwai Kibaki (born November 15, 1931, Gatuyaini, Kenya), Kenyan politician who served as  the third President of Kenya, from December 2002 until April 2013. Rick and His Dad

During his birth in Winchester, Massachusetts, Rick Hoyt was strangled by the umbilical cord, leaving him brain damaged and unable to control his limbs. Months later, doctors told the Hoyt family that Rick would live in a vegetative state the rest of his life and should be put in an institution.

“But the Hoyts weren’t buying it,” wrote Rick Reilly in a profile of the Hoyts for Sports Illustrated magazine (June 20, 2005). “They noticed the way Rick’s eyes followed them around the room. When Rick was 11 they took him to the engineering department at Tufts University and asked if there was anything to help the boy communicate.

“‘No way,’ Dick Hoyt says he was told. ‘There’s nothing going on in his brain.’

“‘Tell him a joke,’ Dick countered. They did. Rick laughed. Turns out a lot was going on in his brain.”

Then, hooked to “a computer that allowed him to control the cursor by touching a switch with the side of his head, Rick was finally able to communicate” with others. This technology enabled him to begin a new life. And that new life included, among other things, his father pushing him in a wheelchair in a charity marathon. After the race, Rick typed out, “‘Dad, when we were running, it felt like I wasn't disabled anymore!’”

Dick determined to give Rick that feeling as often as he could. Four years later, they ran the Boston Marathon together. Then someone suggested a triathlon, and since then the two have done hundreds of athletic events, with his father pushing or pulling him along.

“‘No question about it,’” Rick has typed out. “‘My dad is the Father of the Century.’”

We’ve got a lot in common with Rick Hoyt because we have a Father who, even more than Dick Hoyt loves Rick, loves us, cares for us, and was willing to sacrifice His only son for us.

Like Rick, the tragedy and debilitating effects of sin have paralyzed us all. By our own strength, the life we live isn’t anywhere close to the life we were meant to live. As hard as we might try, we will never improve ourselves enough to be saved. “Our condition through sin is unnatural, and the power that restores us must be supernatural, else it has no value.”—Ellen G. White, The Ministry of Healing, p. 428. We must be saved from outside ourselves because it should be obvious by now that we cannot save ourselves.

It was for this reason that people, at times, have looked up into the night sky for help outside of themselves: a Deliverer. Our spiritual ancestors, the Israelites, had a name for this hoped-for Deliverer: the Son of David, whom we know as Jesus of Nazareth.

And an inspired version of Jesus’ story is given in the Gospel of Matthew, our topic for this quarter. Matthew, a Jewish believer in Jesus, and one of the original disciples of Jesus, recounts the story of Jesus from His own Spirit-inspired perspective. Though in common with Mark, Luke, and John, Matthew’s theme is the incarnation, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus, Matthew focuses strongly on the fact that Jesus is the Promised Messiah. He wanted his readers to know that the redemption of Israel was to be found in Jesus, the One of whom the prophets spoke and to whom all the Old Testament types pointed.

Though his audience was primarily Jews, his message of hope and Redemption speaks to us, as well; a people who, like Rick Hoyt, need Someone to do for us what we never can do for ourselves.

And Matthew tells the story of Him, Jesus, doing just that.

April Fool

Once upon a time, there was a classmate of mine some years ago in Secondary School named Tyrese. He was a very smart kid but also very playful and the most jovial we had. One day during a Mathematics class, on the April 1st, 1992, Tyrese came into the class shouting that the teacher's car was on fire and we all ran out, only for Tyrese to stand laughing and saying: "April fool".

We were so taken because we all ran out and the teacher Mr Onos was so pissed that he had to punish Tyrese for that prank. It was only then that two (2) other students confirmed that he had also played them some April fool prank, and they too in turn had done same to some others. One said, he did his over the phone. 

It was a game among kids, but what do you think about April fool? Somehow, 1st April is always called APRIL FOOL's day, but it is not just a game but a prank of lies and a times, its over pushed. 

Anyway, today is April 1st, 2016 and I wish you a wonderful new month. If you have been pranked, enjoy it but please don't give in to the deception of the Devil to trick people all over the world to lie in the name of "April Fool's Day". 

Have you ever imagined why April is the only month in the year the Devil capitalizes to spread his deception? That's because he knows many wouldn't want to lie because it's a sin against God, so he comes subtly like he did to our first parents Adam and Eve. Wherever it originated from the Devil is behind it. April shouldn't be a month for "Fools". 

Dear listener/reader, please remember that he is the father of lies, so ask God for forgiveness if you've fallen for his deception already and ask for grace from God to help you to be sensitive to the tricks of the Devil. Anyway, in China as of today, April fool's day has been banned as alot of people have been hoaxed by it, according to Washington Post. In another post,“In the West, it’s only for a day, but a certain (TV) station is fooling 365 days non-stop,” another wrote.

That China’s propaganda apparatus has a problem with satire has long been evident. In 2012, the People’s Daily fell for a satirical report in the Onion voting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un the sexiest man alive. The Communist Party newspaper ran a 55-page photo spread in tribute to Kim, quoting the Onion as celebrating his devastatingly handsome looks, round face, boyish charm and strong, sturdy frame — not realizing it was satire.

Li Zhurun, a former journalist and university professor, realized 16 years too late that he had been fooled by an April Fools' Day gag. In 1981, he read a report that cadets at West Point were being taught about legendary Communist Party soldier Lei Feng. He put the story in a report, and it was widely circulated and believed in China. It wasn’t until 1997 that he realized the original story had been published on April 1."
