I appreciate the fact that education has made me value the knowledge I have. There is some popular proverbs and quotes that all point to the fact that education is a necessity; such as "knowledge is power", "education is the key to success", "if you don't read, you will be RED", "there is power in the pen". Before I go further, I have some questions, such as what is education? Is it simply "to read and write" or "to have attended a school or passed through a schooling system"?
Great philosophers like Socrates who said "man know thyself", knew that you need to be educated. In various nations of the world, illiteracy has caved in deep into the fabric of the citizenry, even in developed nations. Currently in the UK, more British ladies attend universities than British men. What is the reason for this? Why do we see such a trend in a developed economy?
I will digress a bit, and state some facts about the education system in Nigeria, being able to attend a private university (Madonna University Okija) and three different federal universities (University of Calabar, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, and University of Ibadan) and a Federal College of Education (FCE Okene), and comparing with the University system in the UK, with my experience attending a top 10 UK institution (Lancaster University).
Basically, Nigeria being the giant of Africa with a population of over 170 million, and over 100 universities uses a basic structure of 6-3-3-4, which was adopted partly from Britain. Nigeria is made up of federal universities, state universities and private universities. We also have polytechnics, and colleges of education, as part of the tertiary education system, but basically you need a Bachelor's Degree (B.Eng, B.Tech, B.Sc, B.Ed) or a HND (Higher National Diploma) or a Masters degree (M.A, MSc, MTech, MEng) before you can do a national service called NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) for 12 months.
To me, education is very important because it enables the society to be stable, well informed, and basically helps to train the youth in capacity building. These may not be so true in developing nations like Nigeria, where we have alot of infrastrustructural decadence and systemic failure. Thus, I will leave you now with the following thoughts and questions:
What is Education to you and I?
What is the need for Education?
Is it merely to learn how to count in numbers or "ALL" about the ability to read and write in English?
Have you noticed that one has to pass English and Maths with a Credit before gaining admission into the University irrespective of the course of study?
What happens to our indigenous languages - Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Ebira, Igala, Benin and Ibibio? Can't we make it an international language?
What is the Modern Philosophy of Education for Primary and Secondary schools, or better still, how has the objectives of the Modern Philosophy of Education been achieved?
Well, I will return to this issue later, but then what about the University education. What is the value of University education? Is it worth the time and money that goes into it?
What makes one an "illiterate" and the other an "educated" man?
Why do parents see only a few courses as the main ones called the top 4, and the rest as not great? Is it by virtue of of being a graduate of Law, Medicine and Surgery, or Engineering?
Why should a parent bad-mouth a student for having a carryover in a course or failing a course?
Why should a student commit suicide for failing a course or not graduating with a desired degree result?
Why will a graduate, a so-called "educated" man still depend on his family after graduation? Is University education really worth the time and money accorded to it?
What do you think is the idea of a university education? Even bribery and corruption in the name of "sorting"?
Why will the female students and ladies be coerced or 'forced' by lecturers to sleep with them for better grades?
What do you think about the education system in our country?
Though the system seemed to have failed but the fact remains that it's intended to better equip young men and women that will stand out in their respective fields. Unfortunately, educators are after their pockets, while most parents have failed in their responsibilities.
It is, however, disheartening, that students aren't even ready to learn, as they prefer "short cuts". It has been shown by research that students learn better when their native language is used in teaching and learning process. Since change is the watchword of the present administration, let's hope that education sector will be looked into for the needed change.
Some people choose not to blame our academic system. that the problem is you and I. Even if when we are done with our academics, how many of us still rattle very well in our indigenous languages amidst our peers. Most people cannot speak fluently in their first languages too or indigenous languages, if not English, as they mix it up, but is it worthwhile?
If we who have passed out from the educational system, and you can speak your indigenous language or present in your language, the young ones following will be encouraged to speak. Some others view it not in one passing through a university but concerned about the number of years attached to the courses.
For instance, a young man studying a course for six (6) years and on graduation will still be looking for job and might end up becoming a business man. whereas there is one (1) young business man since six (6) years ago in Ariaria International Market, Aba or Onitsha Main Market who is already established. It is a fact and yet very funny, but what can we say?
If you graduate and you do not have someone that will recommend you for a job, you are left at the mercy of various interviews and test centres for a recruitment, which also costs you some money and time for transportation and for application in some cases, with risks involved, such as the Nigeria Immigration Service Job Recruitment excercise some years back that led to fatalities.
Where are we heading? What is the way forward? The good news is, there is hope!

Law of Attraction For Wealth
The steps to wealth are very simple, yet highly effective. If you want to earn more money, then you have to closely follow the method. The Millionaire's Brain
If you want to have a millionaire brain, you have to think like one, be like one, act like one and plan like one. If I ask you to try a simple exercise of writing out 10 things / habits you think a millionaire has, try it and also write on another paper 10 things an average person does.
This will help you upgrade your habit. My list will be different from yours as in mine, I notice that I may need lifestyle changes such as moving with the rich, eating well, dressing well but simple, increasing my taste in life.
You need to do this things, and all positive things to succeed and unlock the doors to your destiny. The relationship you have with your fellow men is also very important as it affects your success story.
Do something about your life. Change the way you think, break out of the box. Change the brain and you change the game, hit the button and start now. You will feel the change in your life and you will see how optimistic you are to be a millionaire.

Dream Big
Let your dreams be bigger than your fears and your actions be bigger than your words. Your dream doesn't have an expiration date. Think Positively
You are powerful, because you are made special, whether born poor or rich. It does not matter if you were born with a silver spoon or not, its how you follow it that matters. In my first year in the University, I loved one quote: "it is the you in you that makes you the you you are". You are special! You are made in His image so why worry? You are beautiful! You are handsome! Power is authority. As far as you have strength, some education, can read and write, you can make it, it is not over for you. You too can be your own boss. Your thoughts are very important but what you see is what you believe and that affects what you can create. Think Positively!
Honestly, do you know yourself?
Do you know your strengths and weaknesses?
Do you know what stuffs you are made off?
Do you allow those weaknesses to OVERPOWER you?

The Story of Dad's Palms
Story, story, once upon a time. There was a man, whose name is Kunle. Kunle was a recent graduate and had just applied for a job in a Bank and he was invited for the interview and got employed the same day to his surprise. He was invited to start the following week, but the Lead interviewer who was also the Bank Manger shook his hands and observed his palms were soft.
He decided to ask him what his parents do for a living and he said his father is a farmer. He told him to go home and look at his father's palms and when he comes on Monday, he should tell him what he observed.
On getting home, he broke the news of the successful interview to his boss, and asked to see his dad's palms; then he noticed all the stretches, marks, scars and the tough skinned palms his dad has.
He then narrated the incident to his dad, and at that moment his dad sighed and his dad told him that him the story of how he has been struggling to make sure he came out with distinction and never lack in school. The boy told his father that he was sorry not to have seen it earlier or appreciated any of it.
The father prayed for him and blessed him and on Monday, he went to start his work and his boss called him into the office and asked him: what did he observe in his father's palms? He said that it was hard unlike his palms that were soft.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY: We should appreciate our parents and ALL who went through alot to make us comfortable and successful in school.

How to Change Your Thinking
Every day and
in every way, you are becoming better and better. The way you think affects the people around you and always have positive energy because it is infectious. Life is a puddle and a puzzle, depends on how you choose to see it. Your perspective on life is very important because it determines your direction and elevation. Think Big!
What you see is what you get, but what you dream is what you achieve. If you cannot see it, you cannot achieve it. Trust in God and believe in yourself. Have faith in God and also have faith in yourself. Be yourself at all times.
You are made to seat with Kings and Queens, rulers and great men. You are meant to be in Gala Balls, Big Dinner parties, International Conferences and Fora, attend exhibitions and concerts, have performances, lectures ad talks, be the actor and not the spectator.
In other to live a happy life, you must not live a life of regret, you must keep moving, and like Winston Churchill said: "you must never, never, ever give up!" and then you will soar high like eagles.
Success is not gotten on a platter of gold or dug like Diamonds at the back yards in Sierra Leone, or explored on the ground like oil in Ukwa - Abia; you must make a conscious effort, because opportunity does not come once but is all around us; so many doors must be knocked but not in an effort to succeed, humility is the watchword.

In a recent interview with Black Enterprise Magazine, President Obama was asked, with reference to the complexity of the American Economy, " Are you scared of the Economy?".
To which President Obama replied, " No am not scared of the American Economy, I'm scared of my wife.......She has more business ideas in her mind than the American Economy"
So fellas, I submit to you "that a Woman's most important asset is NOT her LOOKS, it is how she THINKS!"
In fact, over the years I have come to the forgone conclusion that "a Woman with a beautiful BODY can turn heads, but a Woman with a beautiful MIND can turn businesses around!"
So here are 8 ways to tell if your Girlfriend, fiance or wife has BUSINESS SENSE and she can help you build a Business.
1. She dresses for Success, not to Seduce.
Take it from me; if there is one distinguishing feature between highly successful women and less successful women, it is their ability to dress for SUCCESS, NOT dress to SEDUCE. All the successful women I know, be it Marissa Mayer, Oprah Winfrey or Michelle Obama understand that, what you wear says a lot about your brand as a person. No wonder such women are quoted in both Business Magazines, and Fashion Magazines.
Your girl friend or woman has business sense, if she dresses to WIN, not to SIN
2. She lives below her means.
That doesn’t mean she lives poor. But it does mean that she has enough sense to use the K100,000 she has in her purse to pay for her ACCA or CIM exam, than use it all to buy Brazilian hair! You can tell your woman can build a business if, she is willing to look Broke TODAY, so she can live like a Queen TOMORROW.
3. She surrounds herself with friends who are Problem Solvers, not Attention Seekers.

You can tell your woman has business sense, if she helps and supports other female to succeed.

Talk About It
Have u heard how bad gossip destroys? Am publishing sent by another from a friend of mine for years.....

Gossip destroys reputations and friendships. And it keeps others from opening up and getting the help they need. The Bible ranks gossip up there along with murder (see Romans 1:29). It may not be your intention, but your words can break somebody's heart. It's no big surprise when people gossip at the beauty salon or in the workplace, but how about church? It's just not so obvious there because we're experts at disguising it. For example, a friend confides in you about a marriage issue, or their child's drug problem, and what do you do? You get on the phone and call the prayer chain. You share it under the guise of asking for prayer. James writes, 'If anyone... does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless' (James 1:26 NIV).
Why does God come down so hard on gossip? Because it tells the world certain Christians can't be trusted; that somebody with a problem is safer in a twelve-step group than in church. Ever notice how gossip travels faster on grapevines that are sour? And some of the worst offenders are Christian leaders seeking to impress their peers by divulging details of somebody else's struggles.
If you see this tendency in yourself, you need to pray: 'Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord' (Psalm 19:14 NKJV). If you must talk, talk to God.

Make a Budget:
Making a budget indirectly helps you get out of debt by making you accountable for your spending. List monthly income and recurring expenses. Overestimate important expenses like utilities, transportation, and food to allow yourself a little margin. Mint.com has outstanding budgeting tools that are simple to use. Look for places in your budget you can cut back, like canceling cable TV, ending your gym membership, or cutting entertainment expenses. Whatever money is leftover after monthly expenses should go directly toward your outstanding debts.
Take advantage of the internet:
I advise you download the app for your bank, always read your mails, and also try to always check your bank statements. Read economic and financial news and be on top of your economy. Before you go shopping, plan yourself and itemise the things, you can go online and check them out and look at prices from the competitor markets/shops, and don't be in a hurry to buy, take your time becaus eit is your money you are spending. Plan yourself wisely.
Know Your Financial Status:
Knowing what your credit history looks like does two things: It alerts you to possible mistakes on your credit record, and it gives you clues to how flexible creditors will be should you try to renegotiate payment plans. Your credit report is not your credit score. Services like CreditKarma.com provide your TransUnion score for free. Other services generally require payment for providing your credit scores.
Lock Up the Credit Cards
You have to avoid digging yourself any deeper in debt. Lock the credit cards in a box, cut them up (except one for true emergencies), or even freeze them in a bowl of water. You want to make it hard to use your credit cards. Generally you shouldn't cancel credit card accounts, because this will lower your ratio of available credit to credit card debt, and can ding your credit score. Plus, you have to pay them off anyway. Basically, you should make it difficult to use them.
Negotiate With Creditors
This is hard for most people, but it can make a difference. Prioritize your most important bills, like mortgage payments or rent, utilities, transportation, and insurance, and pay them in full if possible. If you're not able to pay the minimum on a credit card, call the card issuer. Depending on your history, you may be able to negotiate a lower interest rate, or at least a lower minimum payment. Creditors don't want to track you down or send your account to collections, and calling them and explaining your situation makes it less likely they'll have to.
Attack Debt Methodically:
Choose one outstanding debt to target first. There are different theories on the best way to do this. Some people choose the smallest debt first for the motivation that paying it off will provide. Others choose to go after debt with the highest interest rate first, because it's costing the most money.
Once you choose which debt to work on first, pay the minimums on all other outstanding debts, and put every leftover dime toward the debt you're targeting. Eventually you'll have your debts paid off, and few accomplishments feel better than this.

Unfortunately, some organizations claiming to be credit counseling services charge high fees and can make debt problems even worse.
Wanting to get out of debt is a goal shared by millions. It requires discipline, but it can be done if you approach it methodically. Debt impacts the whole family, so it's good to deal with it as a family. When everyone has a shared goal, you'll feel better about sacrifices you have to make, and the whole family can share in the sense of accomplishment once you get out of debt.
OBASANJO IN POLITICS OF NIGERIA EVEN AT 79
Gen. OLUSEGUN OBASANJO has, no doubt, been icon and owner of Otta Farms, one of the biggest in South West Nigeria, as well as so many investments. He is someone who has encouraged Nigeria, fought for Nigeria, being behind almost every regime in Nigeria, except about four (4) regimes including that of Late Abacha.
OBJ, as he is fondly called has done both good and evil to Nigeria, as he is an evil you must run away from and an angel you must embrace. Put him inside a deep freezer, he will come out so hot but whenever he comes out of an oven, he will be freezing cold!
He is indeed an Ebora...... He is laughed at but he never cares; the press tackle him but he still dares; the musician like Idris Abdulkareem sang against Nigeria and he commanded he resang the song: "Nigera jaga jaga"; he set up EFCC to tackle corruption and ICPC to tackle crime in Nigeria; he was a strong force in the African Unioin (AU); he set-up both President Goodluck Jonathan and Late President Yaradua.
OBJ remains a strong hold of PDP (Peoples Democratic Party), eventhough they recently lost the presidency to opposition party APC. He also holds several awards and honournary degrees from different institutions. He was also one of the strong fighters that fought to conquer the Biafrans during the Nigerian Civil War.
Baba, as he is fondly called by Nigerians, loved politics and wanted to serve a third term and really had some votes in the national Assembly of Nigeria, but that never got passed anyway. He was also one student of Theology, via the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), probably Baba wants to open a church in Nigeria, who knows!!!
Commander of the Third Marine Commando who merely killed the civil war elephant with his cap, whereas, others have been shooting for months.......the first time he ruled Nigeria, it was because Murtala died, the second time he ruled, it was because Abiola died........Murtala and Abiola were good friends.........He has never used his personal fund or efforts to get anything, they always call him. The first time he wanted it on his own effort, third term failed woefully! Trust him, he denied it, despite all that we saw, his song concerning third term has always been "It wasn't me"......Baba Na you! He is the biblical son sang in Psalms, "...and I will prepare a way for you in the presence of your enemy".
He is the first military man in Nigeria, if not Africa, to hand over to a civilian in what looked like a democratic setting. The whole World celebrated him, he became the UN think tanker, he almost became UN Secretary General but it was his wish. A blogger wrote that Prof. Wole Soyinka wrote tens of petitions against him to stop the UN from producing him, it took the intervention of Late MKO Abiola, who prostrated flat for Soyinka at the Sheraton Hotels, begged him to allow a Nigerian win the UN Secretary General........Soyinka said he was scared, seeing an Aare Ona Kakanfo postrating for him, he stopped further pettitions but the damage has already been done, OBJ never recovered!
OBJ successor in 1979 was a disaster economically and politically, Shagari government was the beginning of acute poverty in the land. Buhari saved us from OBJ's wrong choice. In 2007, OBJ repackaged another disaster. He is also the first civilian ruler who handed over to another civilian in our history. But his choices were worse than before. He packaged a medically dead man as the president and mentally dead semi man as his deputy......Nigeria almost went down to the grave. We were robbed totally, we were killed and maimed.......once again, Buhari came to his aid, saved us, once again, from OBJ wrong choices!!!!
Everyone wants him on their side. Enemies and friends, husband and wives......Since 1979, no one has ever won the presidential election without OBJ'S obvious support!!!!!!!

An MC, introducing Baba, said: "Give him pounded yam and palm wine, you have finished him. A great entertainer, master of words, great finisher. Always demanding for relevance, you can't ignore him successfully".
