The Buffalo Hunter

There is a story told about a professional hunter who had a friend who always wanted to go with him on one of his hunts. So one day he said to his friend, "I have a permit to go into the Zambezi Valley and hunt for a buffalo. Would you like to come with me?"
The friend was ecstatic at the opportunity.
"When do we go?" he asked.
"In about six months time, but before then I have to train you about hunting."
For the next six months, the two men met every day, and they discussed and planned for the trip. The hunter's friend was surprised by how meticulous the hunter was about everything.
He taught him about the bush, and how to survive in it. He taught him everything about buffaloes.
“You must respect the buffalo,” he said, “because it's a very intelligent animal, and it is also extremely dangerous."
He gave him lots of books to read, about hunting and buffaloes.
During that time, the friend also trained every day at the shooting range. He understood by then the different types of guns used to hunt buffalo. He also had to do fitness training, which surprised him.
"You can die out there if you are not fit," his friend explained.
He was totally astounded by what he was learning about hunting.
"Until now, I thought all you do is just go out and shoot, but now I know there’s more to this than meets the eye!" he exclaimed.
When the day came, the two men set out into the wild bush of the Zambezi Valley, one of the most beautiful places on the earth. It is also inhospitably hot, and the terrain is tough.
They'd been tracking one single animal for 5 days, and the hunter's friend was totally exhausted. He watched as his friend patiently made meticulous plans every single day. The hunter seamed to take forever, from the point of view of his friend. Sometimes they would walk, and sometimes they would sit for hours. The hunter was always looking around, scanning the bushes, not even (it appeared) always paying attention to the surrounding areas more than the buffalo.
"Why can't he just shoot and we go home!?"
He was getting tired of this, as they walked almost 50 miles a day. He was also hungry most of the time, as they only ate rations of dried meat and fruit, most of the time. The hunter looked at the animal through his gun sight over and over every day, but wouldn’t take a shot. Sometimes they appeared so close, but he still did not do anything.
It was the fifth day: The animal was in sight again, but the hunter was going through his routine again. The friend sat in the bushes, when suddenly a rabbit appeared in front of him and he thought to himself, "At least if I shoot this rabbit, we can have meat tonight. I'm tired of dry rations." So he pulled out his gun and fired once. The rabbit disappeared, as he had missed anyway, but so did the buffalo, and with it, the entire herd.
The hunter looked at him in total horror and disbelief!
Then he shouted, "Run, or you die!" as he took off.
They almost got stampeded by an entire herd that seemed to appear from nowhere. Also, suddenly there were lions everywhere that he had not seen before! But for the skills of the hunter, who led them both to safety, they could have died.
The buffalo was gone. The hunt was over.
They had to return home, empty-handed.

A humble African Lady

...So I heard this fine lady bagged a doctorate degree and knelt to publicly thank her husband for his support and some people are running a commentary in condemnation.
Most of the comments I read are from fellow women, married, single, abused, happy....
I shake my head!
Oh I really do.
Most of the people taking her to the cleaners are the same ones who will kneel for their bosses at work or even their benefactors.
They are the ones who will go down on their knees for sycophancy purposes.

People, especially our fellow ladies probably do not know what it means to have a supportive husband, so I will excuse them.
They probably don't know what it feels like when your husband pushes, prods and takes you to your zenith, so I will excuse them.
They probably don't know what it feels like when your husband is not intimidated by your success in life, so I will excuse them.
Do they know what it feels like when a husband chooses to invest in his wife instead of buying a new car or a new house?
Okay, let us peep into the flip door.

Many women have potentials but can not maximise them because their husbands have caged them.
Many cannot go to school or further their education. Many more cannot even take up an employment. Many live in fear
So many are abused. A few have been killed.
Hhhmmmmmm!

You won't just understand the adoration and indescribable feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment the woman in the picture must have felt. She probably didn't even know when or how she did this, it must have been a reflex reaction to a well - deserving man.

I have a friend who is always speaking good about her man. She praises him to the high heavens, tells me how supportive he is, how he is a father indeed and how he is such a shinning example, he makes her happy and fulfilled :so many good reports. Now, I don't get to hear this often. I hear the flip side more. 
Last year in the UK, they came to visit me. I held his hands and didn't know (please note the fact that I said I didn't know) when I knelt to thank him. I prayed for him and introduced him to my hosts.

One of the comments I read said something like '' abeg she should have just pecked (What's that abeg?) him or given him a kiss. . " and my reaction is" What's our business really in the way a woman chooses to appreciate a deserving man? ".
See, ehn, we too dey form. We too dey form abeg. Haba!
These same ladies forming 'britico' on social media kneel to greet other men. 
Anyways, my conclusion is drawn. If your man is truly deserving, if you are truly the Daughter of your mother, you will appreciate your man if he deserves to. You may not kneel, you may not kiss him, you may not hug him, but you will appreciate him, even if you have to do that publicly!
Like I always say, if your man is not getting your respect and other men are, then something is fundamentally wrong, not necessarily with you, but maybe, with your relationship.
Leave this woman alone abeg!!!
She's got beauty. She's got brains (PhD no be beans o) and she's got a good character to tops!

Workers Day and You

An old man once told me when i was farming, that a hand that is soiled with dirty from the soil always makes the mouth oily. Happy Workers Day holiday.

Work is very essential, because it puts food on the table, and helps you pay your bills. The question is how do you see work? Also, what is the concept of Workers Day being recognised every May 1st?

I have a few words for you: You can be anything you want to be, or choose to be anyone or any where,  all you need is to believe in yourself. Destinies are not traded, neither is hardwork.

I have tried it and I know the principles and how they work.
Never be-little yourself. I have seen the best, being with the greatest, studied with the best, sat with the greatest, and I know some of these things, am still learning though.
Its a day when we have to remember all the hardwork of men that lived to make us comfortable, designed things for us, and miners who died working in mines.
In the UK, Nigeria, and so many other countries, May 1st is always recognised as a public holiday or bank holiday, because it is workers day.
Happy Workers Day!!!

Lancaster students ensure fundraising success

Lancaster students impressed a local business and charity as part of the Insight into Event Planning course run by Lancaster University Careers in Lent term 2016.
The students, who faced considerable time pressure to achieve success, took an innovative approach to the project, partnering with Nami Sushi to increase their chances of raising as much money as possible for CancerCare.
As part of the project students are invited to create an event/ project with a starting budget of £40. This group was able to raise a staggering £293.28 with an initial expenditure of only £4.75.
Rather than build a project from scratch, the team consisting of Kar Munn Tang, Crystal Gee, Victor Amaechi, Angeline Angeline, Julie Lemaitre, and Monjolaoluwa Okupe, decided to consider different ways to fundraise for the charity. Negotiating with the owners of Nami Sushi, the students agreed that part of the overall cost of each bill would be donated to charity.

With a poster campaign and Facebook publicity, the team made a fantastic impression, leading to Nami Sushi agreeing to support similar initiatives in the future and work with CancerCare.
The students have been a credit to Lancaster University and have made an impressive contribution to local business and charity organisations.
Huge congratulations to the team.

Husband left wife for younger lady

Probably you have read or heard about interesting love story when a husband leaves his wife for much younger woman. Well, in this article you will read such story.
After 37 years of marriage Jake decided to leave his wife for his young secretary. Probably the most interesting fact is that Jake’s new love partner wanted to live in his and Edith’s home. So, it won’t surprise you that this house is worth more than one million dollars. His lawyers won in the lawsuit and Jake was free to live in the house with his lover.
Defeated woman named Edith had just three days to leave the house. On the first day she packed her stuffs into box crates and suitcases. The second day the movers came to get her things. On the third day, she decided to sit down in the dinning – room for the last time. She had a meal of a pound of shrimp, a jar of caviar and a bottle of Chardonnay.
When Edith was done with her lunch, she went into each and every room and placed half – eaten shrimp shells soaked in caviar into the hollow of all of the curtain rods. After that she went back in the kitchen, cleaned it and left the house. The next few days, the ex husband and his new lover moved in and everything was great.
After few days strange and disgusting smell began to spread around the house. The smell was so strong and was unbearably, so they tried with cleaning the house and airing it. New couple ensured that there aren’t any died rodents and washed the carpets. They had air fresheners everywhere.
In addition, they even brought exterminators in order to set off gas canisters. Jake and the secretary had to move out from the house for several days. They replaced even the wool carpeting, which was quite expensive. But the smell was still there and it was getting worse.
After few weeks their friends stopped coming by, and even their repairman couldn’t work anymore in the house. The maid also was gone.
Finally Jake and his new love were forced to move out from the house because the smell was too strong. The house was on sale, but there weren’t any buyers, even when the price was cut on half.
This intriguing story spread around the city quick and even their local realtors avoided to return their calls. So, they were forced to take a huge loan from the bank to buy a new house.
Edith called her ex husband and ask him how the things are working out for him. He told her about his problems with the house. She listened like she didn’t know anything and told him that she misses the house so bad that she would decrease her divorce settlement in exchange for taking the house back.
In this story, it turned out that Jake is naïve, although he was convinced that the fortune has smiled upon him and agreed to give her the house on a price around 1/10 of the overall worth. The only requirement and condition that Jake had was Edith to sign the papers that day. She agreed and the job was done within one hour.
One week later the two lovers were satisfied while watching the movers packing their things and taking them into their new house.

Opportunity calls upon you. They say opportunity comes but once, but I say opportunities are many, just be prepared.

Cowards, they say, die a thousand times before their death, but a soldier dies once. Be a strong-willed soldier. Fight on till you fulfill your dream, and never live a life of regret.

Quitting just shows you are taking the easy way out. Shortcuts are not always the best way out, so work out your future NOW. Plan it, because he who fails to plan plans to fail.

When there is a will, there is a way. So your way should be willing to try again & if you fall down, you get back up!

Never complain about life and program your mind with excuses. Your mind can be stretched, I believe in you.

You can do it. Have a CAN DO spirit, that's the best attitude in life. Be positive, prayerful, grateful, praise-full, charitable and humble.

You may have failed 1,000 times but it shows you have the heart to keep working.

But if you failed once & stopped, then that explains a quitter & quitters make excuses but winners make improvements.

Winston Churchill, a former Prime Minister of UK was invited to give a talk to young ones in his former primary school and he said: "Never give up, never never give up. Never never ever give up".

Amaechi Chiemela Victor in Lancaster

Lancaster was at the top of the list for Amaechi Chiemela Victor when it came to decision time for university applications. Since then, he has discovered a passion for sub-sea engineering as well as experience of working with a range of state-of-the-art facilities.

An international reputation

For Amaechi Chiemela Victor, Lancaster University was his top choice from the outset. “I always wanted the best and Lancaster is great institution,” he says. “It’s a Top 10 university with a great Nigerian society and the international office in Nigeria is so supportive.”
Victor claims that Lancaster was recommended to him whilst studying at another university. “I came here following my supervisor Professor Jianqiao Ye as he champions marine engineering research in addition to his vast experience in mechanical engineering here in Lancaster,” he says.

All the right tools

Lecturers at Lancaster’s Engineering Department have been influential to Victor during his time at the university and he’s always felt comfortable asking questions. “The staff are really friendly and I get all the support I need,” he explains. “The IT personnel are great at sourcing the software applications I need to run models, as well as providing me with a super-fast PC, which has helped my productivity and enabled me to use more engineering software in my research.”
During his time at Lancaster, Victor has enjoyed studying a diverse range of topics. “I love sub-sea engineering,” he says. “Studying this will help me solve problems of risers needed in deepwater exploration activities of oil and gas.”

Friendly community

Victor has settled well on campus, and has so far made the most of his time at Lancaster. “I’m currently living at the Graduate College,” he says. “I’ve enjoyed the sport facilities here, such as the 3G Astro Pitch, the Lawn Tennis Court and the Sports Centre. I can play the piano at theChaplaincy, and then there’s the Engineering Department resources and the Ruskin Library.” Victor is impressed with the range of subject literature on campus. “The University Libraryprovided me with a lot of access to books and journals,” he claims. “The Department also provided me with really useful engineering software. The LUGrad was my second home on campus.”

Creating memories

As his future career prospects draw closer, Victor is confident that Lancaster University is preparing him well for the journey ahead. “As well as the subject-specific teaching, I’m also receiving training on presentation, interview and research skills, which to me is just as important. The University is providing all the funding and support I require to carry out my research.”
Victor is looking forward to gaining a work placement. “I spend a couple hours weekly doing some volunteering work, which has helped me to learn and share knowledge.”
Speaking of the friendships he has developed during his time at Lancaster, Victor claims “I have another family here in the Department and everyone cares about you. I love Lancaster because it’s helped me to discover my potential. I’ll always have good memories of being here.”
