MAN: A poem; by Chiemela Victor A. & Oghogho Joy O.

Man! Who is he?

Man? Where did he come from?
Man? What does he do?
Man? Why do they call him man?

His mother leaps for joy
When she calls his name
Because she knows he ain't a toy
But a prince who will bring her fame.

His father's heart jumps with pride,
Each time he thinks about him
Because he knows he has a child
Who together they make a team

He doesn't go to sleep
Without reminding himself of his dreams.
Hew warns his son about dangers of life
Even when he has been sent to the streams.

He trains his son to be a lover
So that he can also be a good father
He plots his steps to avoid making mistakes
Because he knows his future is at stake.

Every morning, new hope awakes his zeal
So he wouldn't be a waste or steal
His hands are as strong as steel
His hair as shinny as pearls

His looks are charming
And he is the talk of all the maidens
He has respect for traditions
And humility is part of his stance

He has strides that show he loves his time
Yet he is a good listener
With a physique as solid as the rock by the road
Yet he spends time to work even in the cold

Man! Who can understand him?
So you think, until you meet him
He is as simple as frame
That makes you say "he looks like his father"

The colour of his skin is as dark as Ebony.
He is an epitome of African beauty
His smart outfits make people stop to stare
And wonder what makes him a star

But what he has upstairs is not grass
But when engineered into a process
Will yield things of noble access and class
That is the idea of a cute young man.
